National Animal ID System in Vermont
I am happy to announce that Vermont’s Agency of Agriculture did not apply for the federal funding in the FY 2007 Cooperative Agreement. Did not apply! Essentially this means that NAIS is over in Vermont.
I spoke with Kerry Rood personally and asked him what that means for premises registration and the program here in Vermont. He said that it is just a voluntary program at the Federal level.
Santa sure gave us a present! Of course, there will be ramifications from the USDA on the AoA, probably like a ton of bricks. But we have a reprieve and with the new guy coming in, it will be awhile until anything happens. AoA can’t apply for funding again until FY 2008 and then they will be hard pressed to actually get it because they won’t have met the requirements.
