Vermont Libertarian Party Resolutely Condemns Bill Signing by Governor Scott

Gun control in the Green Mountains destroys centuries of Vermont tradition.
As a freshly sworn-in Governor a year and a half ago, Governor Scott promised:
I’m going to do everything I can to protect the rights of all Vermonters and the human rights of all people — that includes standing up to executive orders from Washington that cross legal, ethical and moral lines.

He has gutted both this promise and his oath of office wholesale by signing H.422 and S.55. These new laws do nothing whatsoever to enhance anyone’s safety or to reduce violence. Instead they work to violate our natural right to self defense as protected by the 2nd amendment, and our own Constitution’s Article 16. These new laws will also violate due process, privacy and property rights.
Everyone wants to reduce violence, reduce crime, and keep our children and our most vulnerable safe and out of harm’s way. These measures signed into law will not and can not achieve these goals; they are nothing but an infringement upon the rights of the innocent and peaceful citizens of this great state of Vermont. The impetus for these new laws was the issue of school safety – which is of vital interest to all Vermonters – but these bills wholly fail to meet this standard. They are therefore as useless as a Governor who violates their oath.
Governor Scott’s enduring legacy will be the egregious violation of the rights of Vermonters and the trashing of over two centuries of the Vermont tradition in trusting its citizens to be responsible in the exercise of their rights.

Governor Phil Scott has been charged with the confidence of the people, He won an election based on telling us he was honest.
during his campaign he was using language that seemed to speak of a structured strong truthful personality truly a person we can trust, but alas he is nothing more then a liar,
he will not defend our freedom but will wholesale it to the nearest buyer.
he traded our freedoms for political favors and it is evident he hasn’t a conscience.
We need a younger fresh person in Governors office. one that can’t be bought through a wink and a nod or a trade for political favor. a younger person would have to live with their bad decisions for a long time.
